How to get to Halifax
Halifax is extremely well connected for those coming in and needing to leave the town for work or play.
Located between Manchester and Leeds, both cities are easily reachable via the M62 motorway, which also links Halifax with Bradford and Huddersfield.
Sheffield is via the M1, with Hull at the other end of the M62.
On the railways, Bradford is 15 minutes away, Leeds 35 minutes and Manchester 50 minutes. London King’s Cross is three hours away by train via Leeds.
Halifax restaurants
Like many towns and cities in West Yorkshire, Halifax is extremely multi-cultural when it comes to cuisine.
For British classics, try Denman’s in Shelf which serves up fresh meat, fish and seafood – with many ingredients locally sourced.
One of Halifax’s best curries can be found at The Village Restaurant in Sowerby Bridge, just outside the town centre.
The venue serves up classic Indian dishes in a vibrant atmosphere.
Lovers of Italian classics, meanwhile, should head to Pollino on Warley Road, which offers great food and stunning views out to rural Halifax.
Shops in Halifax
The main shopping centre in Halifax is the Woolstops centre.
Home to the likes of M&S, Boots, Claire’s, Costa, Pandora, New Look and, of course, the Halifax, the centre also holds various events throughout the year.
If independent shops are more your shopping bag, try the Westgate Arcade which also boasts some lovely independent restaurants.
What to do in Halifax
Lovers of open space, walks and fresh air are well catered for in Halifax due to its position on the eastern edge of the Pennines.
Within the town itself, too, there are a number of parks to explore including Shibden Park with its boating lake, model railway and play park.
Shibden Hall is also worth a look. Dating back to 1420, the building offers visitors a glimpse into the lives of the people who lived there way back when.
Cultures vultures have The Victoria Theatre, which puts on shows throughout the year, while FC Halifax Town are flying high in the Conference Premier with an eye on a Football League place.
The club plays its home games at The Shay in town and is a must for Halifax-dwelling sports fans.
