This October why not try something enjoyable

Today we take a look at some ways to keep your mind and body active through October.

Try drawing

This
month sees The Big Draw taking place. Described as the world’s largest
drawing event it’s an initiative designed to encourage people of all
ages to enjoy the simplicity of putting pencil (or pen, crayon or
pastel) to paper. The theme this year is ‘A Climate of Change’ so we
encourage you to let your imagination run free.

Find a new nature trail

Coronavirus
entered our psyche some eight months ago so it’s not surprising we are
feeling low. Thankfully taking a walk can have a restorative effect on
our mental health, reduce anxiety and depression. There are some lovely
parks and woodlands in our area so why not take advantage of one of
these beauty spots and feel reinvigorated.

Plant bulbs

Think
ahead for some early New Year outdoors colour by planting bulbs.
Equally at home in pots as well as the garden bulbs are easy to plant
and require virtually no looking after. Plant snowdrops, crocus,
daffodils, tulips and hyacinths for early blooms and alliums and lilies
for summer flowers.

Play conkers

The World Conker
Championships are normally held this month however not surprisingly, due
to Covid-19, they have been cancelled. The thwacking of horse chestnuts
is a renown British pastime so why not use your time wisely and get
training for next year’s event!

Bake something from GBBO

The
Great British Bake Off has returned to our screens so why not try to
execute one of the really tough challenges that Paul and Prue gleefully
set for contestants. Step out of your kitchen comfort zone and get rough
with the puff, tinker with a tarte au citron or attempt to blitz a
Schichttorte.

Here at Whitegates we know 2020
has been an unusual year, but we’re determined to keep calm, keep active
and keep people moving homes successfully.
